The HCG Diet is a breakthrough diet that reprograms how your brain processes food, eliminates fat from reserves, and allows you to lose up to 1 pound per day.
WHAT IS THE HCG DIET?
The HCG Diet has been developed to fight the seemingly never-ending battle against weight gain and being overweight. HCG is a hormone that is normally produced by both men and women but is especially present in significant amounts when a woman goes through pregnancy. HCG is mainly responsible for drastically increasing metabolism during pregnancy. The HCG diet aims to recreate this condition in non-pregnant patients to help shed unwanted pounds faster.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING AN HCG DIET?
The HCG Diet protocol includes HCG injections, plus a very low-calorie diet, or VLCD. This diet ensures the fat cells in the body cannot immediately replace fat loss by taking in more fat from food consumed in an unhealthy diet. It has been found that the combination of injections and diet helps promote rapid weight loss. A tremendous loss of three to five pounds per week made possible by the HCG hormone essentially changes how a patient perceives food and their eating habits, and patients can sustain a long-term weight loss program. In the process, the patient’s body can release the calories stored in the body’s fat deposits. These calories are either utilized by the body for energy or expelled natural metabolic processes.
WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF THE HCG DIET?
Although the idea of losing one pound of weight a day may sound ideal to most dieters, it can also pose some risks to the patient’s health. The HCG diet must be administered with caution since it could cause side effects, including headaches, muscle cramps, constipation, restlessness, and even hair loss.
HCG is a hormone normally produced in larger amounts during pregnancy; use could precipitate some pregnancy-like symptoms, including water retention, breast tenderness for men and women, or depression.

WHAT SHOULD BE EXPECTED FROM AN HCG DIET PROGRAM?
Depending on the patient’s requirement, the amount of HCG administered will range between 125 to 200 IU to set the weight loss process in motion. It recommended that the patient do this in combination with a very low-calorie diet to bring about the coveted results. The calorie intake in a VLCD could potentially dip to just up to 500 calories a day, a figure that doctors recommend preventing the body from taking up fat as the existing fat cells are being depleted. This fat metabolism results in more rapid weight loss.
Each treatment program will be tailor-fit for each patient and will last as long as they need to achieve their goal weight – but no longer than in 40-day intervals. The HGC hormone is not normally administered the last three days of the diet program because it takes three days for fat to be eliminated from the patient’s body. HCG injections can be adjusted as the patient resumes normal diet activities.
The HCG hormone is administered through injections during the diet, and patients may lose 1 pound of weight a day. It should be noted that the HCG diet is not recommended to go beyond the 43-day limit because patients may develop an immunity to the effects of the hormone after 40 days of continued administration. If patients wanted to continue with the program, a six-week testing period would be implemented before the body becomes responsive to the effects of HCG again. Doctors can only recommend a maximum number of four treatments between breaks before the body becomes unresponsive or completely desensitized to the effects of the HCG diet.
HOW LONG SHOULD I STAY ALIGNED ON A VERY LOW-CALORIE DIET LIKE HCG?
With the HCG diet program, patients reduce their caloric intake drastically. However, this VLCD should only last as long as stored fat deposits are targeted for release. Fat release, a component of the HCG diet, is essential for shedding the pounds completely. Once these fat deposits are gone, and the patients reach their desired weight, patients are removed from the diet, and their normal eating habits resume. The body will begin to reject the imposition of the VLCD at this point since there is no longer any stored fat.
